WORLD MOURNS SHIRLEY TEMPLE

Shirley faces down her future political mentor, Ronald Reagan, in a tense scene from That Hagen Girl. Even audiences back then hooted at the melodramatic tale of 'illegitimacy'. (c) Warner Brothers

She hadn’t made a feature film for over 65 years, but Shirley Temple’s death at age 85 made international headlines.

The net has been flooded with photos and stories about the former child star.  But I’ll just say like the others, she was a fantastic  talent. As a toddler she could perform complex dance numbers with amazing precision. She put veteran hoofers to shame.

She was the darling of the Depression and her syrupy, optimistic films thrilled millions and made 20th Century-Fox a fortune.

Another part of cinema history has left us. But Shirley Temple left behind a bounty of timeless films that families will always enjoy together.

Shirly was constantly flooded with fan mail, well into her 80s. She had to stop signing autographs many years ago....But I got mine!
