WATCH THOSE TEETH…..

A tried-and-true Hollywood publicity gimmick features movie actors visiting the action on other movie sets currently shooting on the lot.

Here’s an especially interesting one for science-fiction fans–John Forsythe, Maureen O’Hara and young Tim Hovey tweak the nose of one of the ferocious dinos used in the Universal sci-fi flick, The Land Unknown. The trio was on the Universal lot filming their 1957 comedy, Everything But the Truth.

Forsythe had worked with Hitchcock and O’Hara was long-time a big star. Young Hovey was a Universal discovery who made a big splash in The Private War of Major Benson, and the studio quickly rushed him into other films before he grew out of his cuteness.

The Land Unknown arrived on the tail-end of the studio’s sci-fi cycle of the 1950s. As you can see, while impressive, the big guy is certainly no refugee from Jurassic Park. I wonder whatever became of this mechanical prop?
