PREHISTORIC HALLOWEEN MONSTERS

THE LOST WORLD SILENT

THE LOST WORLD SILENT

This past weekend I came across this fantastically rare still from the silent film ‘The Lost World,’ made in 1925. This was one of model animator Willis O’Brien’s earliest screen assignments, and was basically a warm-up for his 1933 masterpiece,  ‘King Kong.’

We are so jaded today with our ‘Jurassic Parks’ and even the cheesy Syfy channel’s dinosaur epics. It’s hard to even imagine what those early audiences thought when they saw dinosaurs roaming about on the silent screen. It must have blown their minds.

Please do not confuse this silent classic with the awful Irwin Allen remake in the 1960s, which featured tricked-up lizards in place of stop-motion models. Only the names are the same!

Enjoy this exciting photo from the past!
