HOLLYWOOD SHOW CHICAGO

The Hollywood Show Chicago took place September 7-8, 2013 at the O’Hare Hilton Hotel in Rosemont, Ill.

Fans came from all over the country to the event in hopes of meeting their favorite celebrity, among the 25+ guests in attendance. Folks came from such far-flung places like Virginia and New York. One devoted Debbie Gibson admirer braved a 16-hour bus ride from Pennsylvania to meet his idol.

The Landers sisters brought some Hollywood glamour to the proceedings. That's Audrey on the left, and Judy on the right. The beautiful young lady behind them is Judy's lovely daughter. Name of the canine companion is unknown.

Singer Gibson was a big draw for fans, but the undisputed queen of the show was actress Barbara Eden, who’s best known as the beautiful genie-in-a-bottle from the 60s sitcom I Dream of Jeannie.

Ms. Eden drew long lines of fans both days. She never paused for a minute during the two day event. And throughout she was always gracious and charming to her fans.

At times her line was so long that it had to be split into three sections. She was a good sport throughout, doing Jeannie poses with fans and signing everything put in front of her—always with a smile.

Eden happily went into her Jeannie shtick, to the delight of all her fans! Here she is with Blogmeister Sam doing 'The Blink' for the 1,000th time that day! Here's my Christmas card photo for this year!

Besides Eden and Gibson, other popular attendees were The Birds star Tippi Hedren, Greg Evigan, the ubiquitous Scott Schwartz, MacKenzie Phillips, Jimmy and Kristy Mcnichol, and a host of others.

These types of shows often promote ‘reunions’ of surviving cast members of iconic films and TV series. This one was no exception. There were cast members from the movie Jesus Christ, Superstar (Ted Neely, Yvonne Elliman and Josh Mostel); vocal actors Chris Sarandon, Ken Page and Paige O’Hara; a My Three Sons gathering (Barry and Stanley Livingston and Tina Cole) and two cast members from the movie musical, Oliver.

Mr. Moody was a particular delight. Near 90 years old, the veteran British performer was quite friendly and had many great stories to tell. He performed with such English greats as Margaret Rutherford and many others. He is a great friend of horror star Christopher Lee and sees him frequently at charity events.

On meeting, Moody remarked immediately that i resembled the great Groucho. He told me how the comedian once met him backstage after a performance, and was a non-stop joke machine, constantly firing out one-liners.

Devoted Jeannie admirers had the opportunity to meet Hollywood artist Mario A. C. Della Casa and purchase one of his beautifully crafted bottles. Della Casa, Daily and Eden signed dozens of these bottles for enthusiastic fans. You may reach the artist at JeannieBottles@Mc.com.

As much fun as I had, I am still of conflicted feelings about these type of autograph shows. I enjoy meeting the celebrities, and i really have little problem with them selling photos. None of them made the superstar salaries of today. But I suppose when many started charging just to have a photo taken with a fan, that it started to cross into being a bit too mercenary, and more than a bit tacky. ….I’m just sayin’…

Kudos to the show promoters. The event was well organized and staff was pleasant and friendly. I look forward to their next event.
