This great color portrait of Sidney Poitier is from one of his rare television appearances in the film, Separate but Equal. In this 1991 TV film, Poitier portrayed Judge Thurgood Marshall. (c) ABC
He’s an actor, director, humanitarian, ground-breaker….Sidney Poitier is all that—and much, much more. Mr. Poitier is 87 years young today.
He is a true icon of African-Americans in the cinema, the first to win an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1963 for Lilies of the Field.
I have seen almost all his films, and no matter what their quality, he always gave a dynamic performance.
Birthday greetings to you today, Mr. Poitier! We wish you many, many more!
