Birthday greetings to former child actress Margaret O’Brien as she celebrates her special day today.

She was phenomenally popular as a child star in the early 40s, starring in several classic MGM films such as The Canterville Ghost, Journey for Margaret, and Little Women. She is one of the two surviving cast members from Meet Me in St. Louis—the other is June Lockhart!

I saw Ms. O’Brien in person during the summer of 2000, at a film convention. She was terribly shy and seemed a bit distant, but before long she warmed up to her fans and seemed to enjoy herself.

Happy Birthday, Margaret—wishing you many more!
